The Munich airport Franz Josef Strauß, lies approximately 30 kilometers northeast from the center of Munich, has been gone into service in 1992. Before that time, since 1939, flights from across the world landed and departured at the old airport in Riem. The munich government turned the old airport into the “Messestadt München-Riem” where the fair city of Munich was created and most famous fairs of Europe such as the BUGA 05 found its venue.
